July 11th: What You Can Look Forward to
Session 1: Thinking Differently about Your Weight
1:15 – 2:00 pm EST
This session will challenge you to think about weight like you’ve never done before. Like most people, you’ve probably heard the same advice about weight-loss for as long as you can remember. Maybe this has resulted in a poor relationship with the scale and years of battling your weight with frustration and disappointment. We just have to eat less, move more, and find enough willpower to change…right?
Hardly! This thought-provoking opening session, led by leading obesity medicine physician Scott Kahan, MD, MPH, will set the stage for looking at the science behind weight and seeing how deep it really goes. If weight-loss was so simple, no one would struggle! Dr. Kahan will show us why black and white messages about weight just don’t work – and why it’s important to start looking through a new lens.
Session 2: The Roller Coaster of Life – Major Events and Personal Factors that Impact Weight
2:10 – 2:55 pm EST
Childhood…college…marriage…children…oh my! Life events shape who we become, but we don’t always realize how much they can affect our weight. Actually, we all have a personal history behind our weight that is influenced by different factors. What does yours look like and what can you learn from it?
Renowned obesity medicine researcher and author, Robert Kushner, MD, will help us take a look at the causes of weight gain over time and address some of the most common life events that may have had an impact on your weight. Dr. Kushner will uncover how these aspects may have contributed to weight gain by influencing your thoughts, biology and more. By the end, you’ll see how the dots connect and discover how to use your personal weight history to develop a treatment plan and take back control.
