In today’s world, it’s easy to get lost in a sea of distractions. From our phones and tablets to our television sets and video games, the world is at our fingertips. Which, generally speaking, is a good thing. Staying connected helps us become more in-tune with the world around us.
Mindfulness and Your Weight Management Journey
On the other hand, these technological distractions can sometimes do a little bit too much distracting. It’s easy to lose focus and spend hours sitting in front a screen. How often have you checked Facebook only to notice that an hour later, you’re still scrolling through your news feed? How often have you lost track of time while watching television at night?
There’s no shame if you’re reading this post and thinking, “Hey – that’s me!” Most of us do it, because like we said earlier, it’s easy to be distracted by the tools we have at our fingertips.
However, it’s important that we maintain balance in our lives. Too much time with technology can detract from general health – especially when it comes to weight. Making healthy decisions for our weight requires time and effort, which technology can sometimes take away from us.
That’s where mindfulness becomes important!
Practicing mindfulness in your daily life can help you stay grounded, find peace and focus on the world around you. It can also help you connect deeper with your body and recognize its needs. Say, for example, a need to put down the cellphone and go for a walk outside to improve your weight and health.
When is it Time to Unplug?
If you find that technological distractions are taking away from your overall health, it’s time to unplug and practice mindfulness. But what exactly does that mean? It’s a wise idea to unplug when:
- You’re under stress and you need to recover
- Time feels like it’s slipping away
- You’ve noticed a negative change in your exercise routine or eating habits
- Your sleep is suffering
- You’re frequently losing awareness of your surroundings
- You feel physically cramped, fatigued or restless
- You’re spending less time with people than before
Remember – balance is key! Technology certainly isn’t a bad thing, as it allows us to navigate the world around us with greater ease. But it’s also important to unplug every now and then to focus on you, your weight and your health.
