Let’s admit it. Keeping healthy is hard! In today’s world, we’re living life in the fast lane. The responsibilities of working, going to school, raising families and running errands demand a lot out of our time and energy! Despite all of our obligations, many of us still make an honest effort to make smart decisions and work toward improving our weight and health every day.
Unfortunately, the on-the-go lifestyle makes it very difficult to stay loyal to the nutrition and exercise routines we’ve worked so hard to plan and establish. A lot of times, the end result can put extra stress on our bodies in the form of extra calories, little sleep and little physical activity.
So, How Can You Stay Healthy While Living on the Go?
- Plan ahead – If you know that you’re out and about most of the time, be sure to pack healthy snacks in your bags or belongings for when you get hungry. That way, you have nutritious food options on hand and hunger won’t have the chance to make decisions for you. For information about making snacks part of a healthy meal, click here.
- Eat smart when you eat out – Eating out frequently has the unfortunate side effect of excess calories, but there’s nothing wrong with it in moderation. When you order from a restaurant or other food place, choose lean proteins, plenty of vegetables and healthy carbs such as whole grain rice or potatoes without the fillings. Try requesting that your food be cooked without butter and sauce, and consider adding flavor through different spices if they are available.
- Always drink water – This is something you should be doing even when you aren’t traveling! By drinking water throughout the entire day, you decrease hunger and replenish your energy levels.
- Incorporate exercise – If you’re traveling, don’t forget to pack your workout clothes to keep on hand! When you’re going somewhere new and unfamiliar, try asking for route options so that you can walk, run or bike for extra exercise. Before you make your travel plans, consider picking a location where you will have access to a gym, pool or other exercise facility. Including workouts during travel will help boost your endorphin levels, allowing you to enjoy your trip even more!
- Download helpful apps – Whether you’re planning a total getaway or you’re just very busy, technology can come in handy! Downloading helpful apps that count calories, monitor workouts and help you pick the healthiest foods is a great way to stay on track while on the go.
Although it may feel like you’re pulled in many different directions, you don’t have to make your frantic lifestyle an excuse for dropping everything you’ve worked so hard for! Or, if you’re gearing up for travel plans , remember that you can stay healthy while having fun! There are plenty of ways to keep moving toward your weight and health goals, even while you’re away from home.
