All through December, you’ve been occupied by holiday happenings. A social gathering here, a holiday work lunch there, and a weekend consumed with festive activities.
There’s no doubt that it’s very easy to slip away from weight management during this time of year. But before you ring-in the New Year, it will help to reign-in those distractions and focus once again on the goals before you.
How to Fight-off the Post-Holiday Slump
It’s common to feel a little disoriented and unfocused after the holidays, but don’t let those feelings get in the way of future progress! Consider these tips for getting back on-track.
- Clean-out Your Kitchen – Maybe your fridge and pantry are filled with not-so-healthy holiday goodies. Use this time to throw out everything that doesn’t belong in your kitchen, and then go grocery shopping to stock up once more on nutritious foods.
- Create an Exercise Schedule – Consistency is key. Find the time of day where you’re least distracted and use that time to squeeze in some physical activity.
- Find an Accountability Partner – You’re likely not the only one in a post-holiday slump. Find a friend, family member or co-worker to be your accountability partner, and keep each other focused on your goals.
- Make a Goal List – You might already have this in the works with the approaching New Year, but sit down to create a list of specific SMART goals you want to achieve in 2018.
- Limit Your Alcohol Consumption – The holidays are notorious for food and drinks, but afterwards, it may be wise to set a stricter limit on the amount of alcohol you consume.
Getting back on-track with your weight and health can sometimes be harder than beginning in the first place. Equip yourself with the above tools and strategies to find your healthiest self at the start of the New Year!
