After a day devoted to food, fun and indulgence, you may be wondering how to get back on-track with your weight. Many people face feelings of guilt after Thanksgiving, but you don’t have to!
There’s nothing wrong with a “cheat” day or a holiday in which you veer from your usual weight management routine during a couple of meals. However, if you’re asking yourself how you’ll rid of that extra holiday indulgence, check out these tips below.
Getting Back in the Game after Thanksgiving
- Drinks Lots of Water – It’s time to flush out all those unnecessary calories and ingredients! Ditch the alcohol, egg nog and high-sugar fruit juices for at least eight cups of water a day.
- Start to Move – It’s common to feel like you’re walking around still stuffed and bloated after Thanksgiving dinner and leftovers. Some light exercise will help jump-start your metabolism and your digestive system to continue processing your food.
- Box Your Leftovers – Have a little extra goodies after the holiday? Pack them into small, portion-controlled containers to eat as leftovers. Try to avoid packing them away in large containers where it’s easy to overeat.
- Go Grocery Shopping – There’s no better way to get back in the game than to fill up your grocery cart with healthier items. During the post-holiday slump, make sure to stock up on fruits, veggies, low-fat dairy, whole grains and lean meats.
- Return to Your Goal List – It’s the perfect time to go back and reflect on your original weight management goals. This will help you regain focus and pay attention to the specific goals you want to achieve.
- Donate Your Leftovers – Perhaps someone you know didn’t get to eat Thanksgiving dinner. Maybe you know of some people without homes. Consider giving away your holiday leftovers to others who are less fortunate.
It’s time to get back on-track with your healthy routine so you can make it through the rest of the holiday season!
