Tips for Busting through a Workout Plateau
Sometimes, all it takes is a few simple adjustments to break through a stall in progress. If you’ve experienced any or all above the above symptoms, it’s time to kick things up a notch:
- Spice Things Up – “Shock” your workouts by introducing a new type of exercise or piece of equipment. Your body thrives on variety, and this gives you a chance to work out different muscles.
- Adjust Your Goals – Set a new record every day, and consider changing your long-term goals as well. Make sure they are SMART goals: specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-based.
- Keep Track of Everything – This includes the duration of your workouts, calories burned, weight lifted, calories consumed and level of ease.
- Take a Well-deserved Break – A fair amount of rest replenishes your mental and physical state of being. You may notice an increase in motivation and/or endurance afterwards.
- Perfect Your Form – A simple adjustment such as straightening your back or widening/narrowing your grip can make a significant difference in your performance.
Remember – a workout plateau is simply a bump in the road. Add in that extra “umph” and you’ll continue to move forward in the right direction!
